- Before this is published
In plain language
This is a plain-English summary. It is not the agreement — the numbered sections below are. Where the two seem to disagree, the numbered sections win.
- Crossing prepares job applications. It never sends one. It reads the questions an employer has published on their own application form, fills in what it can justify from your résumé and your settings, shows you the result, and then opens the employer's page in your browser so you can press Submit. There is no code path in Crossing that submits an application, and we do not want one.
- You are the applicant. Everything that goes out under your name is yours — including text a model rephrased and fields we pre-filled. Read it before you send it. If it is wrong, that is on you, and you are the only person who can catch it.
- We do not represent you. We are not your agent, recruiter, lawyer, or career counsellor. We have no relationship with the employers whose jobs we list, and we do not endorse them.
- We cannot promise you a job, an interview, or a reply. Nobody can.
- Job listings come from other people's feeds. They can be out of date, duplicated, mislabelled, or not a real opening at all. We show you what the source published.
- The résumé tailoring reorders and rephrases your own material. A code-level guard rejects any rewrite that introduces a number, name, date or credential your original bullet did not contain. It is a real control, not a promise — and it is still not a substitute for you reading the output.
- Don't lie on an application, and don't use us to fire off applications you haven't read. Those are the two rules that actually matter to us.
- Your résumé and your notes stay yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the product for you. The job index and the software are ours.
- The service is provided as-is, and our liability is limited — see §15 and §16, which are written in the usual defensive language because they have to be.
1Who these terms are between
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Unresolved: REVIEW: legal entity name — e.g. "Crossing, a California limited liability company". Do not publish without this. ("we", "us", "Crossing"), covering your use of the Crossing web application, its browser bookmarklets, its feeds, and its API (together, the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.
2What the Service is
Crossing aggregates public job postings, scores them against your résumé, drafts tailored material, and organises your search as a queue: one job, one card, one decision.
Specifically, it:
- Indexes remote job postings from public aggregator feeds and public applicant-tracking-system ("ATS") boards, including RemoteOK, Remotive, We Work Remotely, Himalayas, Jobicy, Arbeitnow, Hacker News, and public Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, Recruitee, SmartRecruiters, Rippling and Personio boards.
- Scores each posting against your profile and résumé, and shows you the breakdown.
- Reads the employer's published question set for the boards it supports (Greenhouse, Lever, Workable, Rippling, Ashby fully; Personio partially) so it can show you what you will be asked before you open the form.
- Prepares answers from your own résumé and the settings you have saved, and shows you every one of them with its source before anything is handed over.
- Tailors résumé bullet points to a posting, under the constraints described in §7.
- Tracks your applications, interviews, contacts and tasks, and can generate cover letters, outreach drafts, interview prep and company briefs.
3What the Service is not — the part that matters most
Crossing never submits an application on your behalf.
This is not a policy we could quietly change while these Terms said otherwise; it is how the product is built. The apply engine makes no outbound request in any apply path. Its result type has no "submitted" outcome — the outcomes an application run can record are opened, skipped, later, needs click, and failed, and none of them mean sent. When you press Send inside Crossing, what happens is that the employer's own application page opens in your own browser, in your own session. The last click is always yours, on the employer's site.
If we ever build a genuine auto-submit feature, it will be an opt-in you switch on yourself, and these Terms will be rewritten before it ships — not after.
Because of that, and to say the rest of it plainly:
- We are not your agent or representative. We do not contact employers for you, negotiate for you, or hold ourselves out to any employer as acting for you.
- We are not an employment agency, staffing firm, or recruiter, and we take no fee from any employer for a placement. Unresolved: REVIEW: confirm this against California's employment-agency licensing rules (Cal. Civ. Code §1812.500 et seq.) and any equivalent in other states you serve. The no-fee-from-employers fact is the one that usually keeps a product out of that definition, but it should be checked rather than assumed.
- We do not guarantee anything about outcomes — not an interview, not a reply, not an offer, not that a listed job exists or is still open, and not that any application you send is received.
- We give no legal, immigration, tax, or career advice. Work-authorisation and sponsorship questions on an application are legal statements about your own status. Crossing will fill in what you told it and nothing else, and when an employer's form splits "yes" into several specific visa categories, Crossing deliberately leaves the field blank rather than pick one for you.
4You are the applicant, and you are responsible for what you send
This section is the spine of this agreement. Everything else is detail.
An application you send through an employer's form is your statement about yourself, made to that employer, in your name. That is true of every part of it:
- text you typed;
- text Crossing pre-filled from your profile, your settings, or your résumé;
- text a language model rephrased, reordered or drafted;
- an answer Crossing remembered from an application you made previously and reused here;
- the résumé file you attached.
You are solely responsible for the accuracy, completeness and honesty of all of it, whatever its origin inside Crossing. You must read what has been prepared before you submit it. Crossing shows you every prepared answer, labelled with where it came from, precisely so that you can.
You are also responsible for complying with the terms of every employer's site and ATS that you apply through. Those are separate agreements between you and them, and nothing here overrides them.
If a prepared answer is wrong — a stale phone number, a rephrased bullet you disagree with, a remembered answer that no longer applies — fix it or clear it before you submit. Once it leaves your browser it is out of our hands, and it is your name on it.
5Accounts
- Age. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. Unresolved: REVIEW: 18 is a deliberate choice, not a code fact — nothing in the product checks age today. If you intend to serve 16–17 year-old jobseekers, this number and the privacy notice both change, and COPPA/state minor-privacy rules come into play.
- One person per account. An account is for a single named individual. Do not share credentials, and do not run a search for someone else from your own account. Unresolved: REVIEW: the "Teams" plan is named as though it is multi-seat but grants no team features in code — it only raises this same single account's limits. Either rename it or build seats; as written, a customer could reasonably read "Teams" as permission to share, which this clause forbids.
- Accurate details. Sign up with an email address you control and keep it current. Verification mail, alerts and reminders go there.
- Credential security. You are responsible for your password and for everything done under your account. Sessions last 30 days. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else. Unresolved: REVIEW: contact route for security reports.
- API keys and feed links are credentials too. An API key is shown to you exactly once and cannot be recovered — only replaced. A saved-search feed link contains a token that lets anyone holding it read the results of that one search without signing in. Treat both like passwords.
- Closing your account. You can delete your account yourself in Settings; you will be asked to type your own email address to confirm. Deletion is immediate and permanent — there is no grace period and no undo. Export anything you want to keep first (§12). What deletion does and does not erase is described in the Privacy Policy, and you should read that section before you press the button.
6Acceptable use
These rules are specific to what this product actually does. Read them as written; they are not boilerplate.
You must not:
- Send an application you have not read. Crossing will let you skip the review screen. Doing so does not move responsibility off you (§4), and using the Service to fire off unreviewed applications at volume is a breach of these Terms regardless of how you technically achieve it.
- Fabricate credentials. Do not state a degree, certification, employer, job title, security clearance, salary, date, or work-authorisation status that is not true. The anti-fabrication guard described in §7 is a safety net for machine output — it is not permission, and it does not check anything you typed yourself.
- Apply as someone else, or with someone else's résumé, or upload a document, contact record or personal detail belonging to another person without a lawful basis for doing so. Crossing's contact and interview records can hold recruiters' and interviewers' names, emails and phone numbers; those are real people who never signed up here, and you are responsible for how you collect and use their details.
- Automate against employers' systems beyond what Crossing itself does. Crossing reads publicly published job data and question sets, and its bookmarklet types answers into a form that is open in front of you. You must not use, modify, wrap, script, or drive the Service — or the bookmarklets — to click Submit, defeat a captcha, operate inside an iframe, submit forms in the background, or otherwise apply without a human reading and pressing the button. Removing or working around the "never presses Submit" behaviour is a breach of these Terms, not a clever use of them.
- Scrape, mirror or bulk-extract Crossing. No crawling, no automated harvesting of the board, no re-fetching the index through the app's own pages or endpoints in bulk. The exports and API in §12 exist so that you never need to.
- Resell or redistribute the job index. Your access to the aggregated, normalised, de-duplicated index — including CSV exports, JSON/RSS feeds and API responses — is for your own personal job search. Do not republish it, sell it, sublicense it, use it to build or train a competing index or dataset, or feed it into a product you offer to others. Unresolved: REVIEW: the individual postings are third-party content that we do not own; what we can meaningfully claim is the compilation, normalisation, de-duplication and scoring — see §11 and get counsel's view on how strongly to word this in light of Feist and the ATS sources' own terms.
- Circumvent rate limits, quotas or plan caps. That includes the general request limits (240 requests per minute by default; 12 per minute on authentication endpoints), per-plan quotas (§10), the daily hand-off cap (§10), the free-plan CSV row cap, and any limit enforced by an API key. Do not create multiple accounts to get around any of them.
- Attack or probe the Service. No unauthorised access attempts, no attempts to read another user's data, no denial-of-service, no exploiting the "add a job by URL" importer or any other feature to reach hosts you are not entitled to reach. Unresolved: REVIEW: consider adding a safe-harbour sentence for good-faith security research, with a disclosure address — it costs nothing and materially improves the odds that a researcher tells you instead of publishing.
- Use the Service unlawfully, including to discriminate unlawfully, to harass, or in breach of any employer's terms, any board's terms, or any applicable export-control or sanctions rules.
We may investigate suspected breaches and may suspend or terminate access under §14.
7Generated content: tailoring, cover letters and briefs
Some of what Crossing produces is generated — by deterministic rules, and, if a language model has been configured, by that model.
How résumé tailoring is constrained. Tailoring is limited to reordering and rephrasing bullet points that are already in your résumé. A model, if used, may only return edits keyed to bullets we sent it — employers, job titles, dates and degrees are structurally not part of what it can return. Every candidate rewrite, including those produced by the non-model rule engine, then goes through a code-level anti-fabrication guard that rejects the rewrite if:
- it contains a number that is not in that source bullet;
- it contains a capitalised name or phrase that is not in that bullet or elsewhere in your résumé — and the job description is deliberately not an allowed source, so a posting mentioning a technology does not license claiming it;
- it contains a year, month, degree or certification that is not verbatim in the source bullet;
- it is too long, or shares too little content with the bullet it claims to be a rewrite of.
A rejected rewrite is discarded and your original bullet is kept.
What that does and does not mean. The guard is a real, testable control, and it is the reason we are willing to put generated text near a real application. It is not a guarantee of truth. It cannot know whether your original bullet was accurate, whether a rephrasing implies something you did not mean, or whether an emphasis shift misleads a particular reader. Generated cover letters, outreach messages, interview prep and company briefs are not covered by the same guard at all — they are drafts.
So: read everything before it goes anywhere. Generated output is a starting point offered to you, not a statement made by us, and once you send it, it is your statement (§4). We make no representation that any generated text is accurate, current, complete, non-infringing, or suitable for the application you are about to make.
Match scores are estimates. They reflect our scoring code's read of a posting against your profile. They are not a prediction of whether you will be hired, and no employer sees them.
8Job listings and other third-party content
Job postings, company details, salary figures and application links on Crossing come from public feeds and public ATS boards. We normalise and de-duplicate them; we do not verify them.
You should assume that some listings are:
- stale — a posting is only marked inactive once its source stops publishing it or its stated expiry passes, and sources are not prompt about either;
- duplicated or re-posted across sources, or re-posted by the same employer over months;
- inaccurate as to salary, location, remote status or seniority, because we are repeating what the source published;
- not a real opening. "Ghost jobs" — listings kept up to build a pipeline, satisfy an internal posting policy, or project growth, with no intent to hire — are a widely reported feature of the job market. We have no way to detect them and we do not claim to.
We do not endorse, vet, screen or recommend any employer, recruiter or posting, and a job's presence on Crossing says nothing about whether the employer is legitimate, solvent, or worth your time. Salary figures marked as estimated were inferred by our code, not published by the employer.
Dealing with employers is between you and them. That includes the application itself, any interview, any offer, and any dispute. We are not a party to it and we take no responsibility for it. Apply the same caution you would anywhere else: be sceptical of anyone who asks for payment, banking details or identity documents as part of an application.
Logos and images. Company logos shown in Crossing are loaded directly from third-party hosts by your browser; we do not host or control them, and doing so discloses your IP address and browser to those hosts. The Privacy Policy covers this.
Links out. Crossing links to employers' sites, ATS boards and aggregators. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability, or their terms.
9The browser tools
Crossing offers two bookmarklets and one server-side importer. All three are conveniences; none of them is required to use the product.
"Save to Crossing" bookmarklet. Click it on any job posting and it opens a Crossing tab carrying that page's address and title. That is the entire payload — it does not read the page, your cookies, or anything else on it. Crossing's server then fetches the posting itself and shows you what it read; nothing is written to your tracker until you confirm.
"Add a job by link". You paste a URL and our server fetches it on your behalf. It will only fetch http(s) URLs on standard ports that resolve to publicly routable addresses, follows at most three redirects, re-checks each one, and stops at a couple of megabytes or a few seconds. It fetches as an anonymous visitor, so a posting behind a login will not read — paste the text instead. Do not use this feature to make our server reach a host you are not entitled to reach (§6.8).
"Apply assist" bookmarklet. On an employer's application page, this bookmarklet asks Crossing for the answers you prepared and types them into the fields the employer's own form declared, outlining what it filled and listing what it could not place. Then it stops.
- It never presses Submit. No clicks, no form submissions, nothing inside an iframe, nothing near a captcha.
- It cannot attach your résumé. Browsers do not permit a script to place a file into a file input. You attach the file yourself.
- Demographic questions stay blank unless you have filled those answers in yourself, in your own settings. Crossing never infers them, and leaving them blank never blocks a hand-off.
- Some employer pages will block it with a strict content-security policy. Nothing breaks; nothing happens. Every prepared answer is also listed on the apply screen with a copy button, and that works everywhere.
- You are responsible for what is in the form when you submit it (§4). Check the fields it filled and the ones it says it could not.
10Plans, billing and quotas
Plans. Crossing has a Free plan and paid Pro and Teams plans. As at the date above, Pro is $19/month and Teams is $49/month; an annual subscription is charged for ten months of the twelve. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax we are required to collect.
What the Free plan includes — this is a working plan, not a demo: search across the whole index; 50 saved jobs; 3 saved searches with instant, daily or weekly alerts; 25 tracked applications; 1 stored résumé with full match scoring and the ATS keyword scan; 5 AI actions a day; complete CSV export of any single apply run, plus your 25 most recent applications.
Paid plans raise those ceilings (unlimited saved jobs, searches, alerts and tracked applications; 10 stored résumés on Pro and unlimited on Teams; 100 AI actions a day on Pro and 500 on Teams; uncapped CSV export).
The daily hand-off cap. Every plan caps assisted hand-offs per day: 10 on Free, 30 on Pro and Teams. The count resets at midnight UTC, and boards we could not pre-fill never count towards it. This cap is deliberate. Past roughly that many tailored applications in a day, response rates stop improving and employers' duplicate detection starts working against you.
Quotas are enforced, and exports are truncated rather than refused. Where a plan limit stops an action, the app says which limit, how to make room, and which plan lifts it. A capped CSV export still produces a real, complete-as-far-as-it-goes file and marks itself as truncated; we never pad or alter an export's contents to advertise an upgrade.
Payment. Paid plans are processed by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's own hosted checkout page and never reach Crossing — there is no card field anywhere in the app and no card data in our database. Stripe receives your email address and your Crossing account id. Stripe's own terms and privacy policy apply to their handling of your payment.
Renewal, cancellation and refunds.
Price changes. We may change prices. A change will not affect the period you have already paid for, and we will give notice before it applies to a renewal. Unresolved: REVIEW: set the notice period — 30 days is standard — and the notice method.
Free-plan changes. We may change what the Free plan includes. If we reduce it materially, we will say so in advance.
11Intellectual property
Yours stays yours. Your résumé (the file and its text), your profile, your notes, your cover letters, your tracker entries, your contacts and everything else you put into Crossing remain yours. We claim no ownership of any of it.
The licence you give us. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, parse, index, transmit, display and process your content solely to operate the Service for you — that is: to store your résumé, extract its text, score it against postings, prepare answers, generate the drafts you ask for, run your alerts and exports, and back the whole thing up. The licence exists for no other purpose. It ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already made in routine backups and the limited items described in the Privacy Policy as surviving deletion.
We do not train models on your content, and we do not sell it or share it with employers, data brokers or advertisers. Content you provide is used for your own use of the Service.
Ours stays ours. The Crossing software, interface, design, name, logo, scoring and matching logic, the apply engine, and the aggregated index as a compilation — its normalisation, de-duplication, enrichment and structure — belong to us or our licensors. These Terms grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service, and nothing more. Individual job postings belong to whoever wrote them.
Feedback. If you send us suggestions we may use them freely, with no obligation to you.
12Exports, feeds and the API
You can export your data at any time: a full JSON export of your account, CSV exports of your applications and jobs, an .ics calendar of your interviews, and the original file of any résumé you uploaded.
Feeds. Each saved search can be published as a JSON or RSS feed reachable by an unguessable token, so a feed reader can poll it without signing in. Anyone who has the link can read that search's results. Don't post it publicly, and regenerate it if you do.
API. /api/v1 mirrors the app's search, company directory, tracker and saved searches, authenticated by an API key rather than a session cookie. Keys are shown once and stored only as a hash. Use of the API is subject to all of §6 — in particular the prohibitions on bulk extraction, redistribution of the index, and circumventing limits.
We may change, deprecate or version these interfaces. Where a change is breaking we will make a reasonable effort to give notice.
13Privacy
How we handle personal data — including your résumé, the answers prepared for employers, the optional demographic settings, and what does and does not survive account deletion — is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. Unresolved: REVIEW: link, once published.
Two points belong here because they change what you are agreeing to:
- When you hand off to an employer, you leave us. From the moment the employer's application page opens in your browser, the employer and their ATS see your IP address, your browser, and everything you type there — under their privacy notice, not ours.
- Contacts you record are other people's data. Recruiter and interviewer names, emails and phone numbers you store in Crossing belong to people who never signed up here. You are responsible for having a proper basis to hold and use them.
14Suspension, termination and what happens to your data
You can leave at any time by deleting your account in Settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your account row is deleted and the database cascade removes your sessions, profile, résumés (including the original uploaded files), saved and hidden jobs, viewing history, match scores, saved searches, notifications, mail, applications and their events and interviews, contacts, documents, tasks, subscription record, usage counters, API keys, apply settings (including any demographic answers), remembered answers, and every hand-off receipt.
A small number of items are not removed by that cascade. They are itemised in the Privacy Policy and you should read that list before deleting, because there is no way to undo the deletion afterwards.
Deleting your account does not undo an application you already sent. Those are with the employer, under their retention rules, and we cannot recall them.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if we reasonably believe your use is harming the Service, another user, an employer, or a source we depend on. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why and give you a chance to fix it first; for serious breaches — §6.2 (fabricated credentials), §6.3 (applying as someone else), §6.4 (automated submission), §6.8 (attacks) — we may act immediately.
We may discontinue the Service. If we shut it down, we will give reasonable notice and a window to export your data. Unresolved: REVIEW: set the notice period and, if you have paid subscribers, the pro-rata refund position.
Surviving sections. §4, §6, §11, §15, §16, §17, §19 and §20 survive termination.
15Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and any warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade.
Without limiting that, we do not warrant that:
- the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free;
- job listings are accurate, current, complete, legitimate, or represent real openings;
- an application you prepare will be received, read, or acted on by any employer;
- generated text is accurate, appropriate, or free of error;
- match scores predict anything;
- a bookmarklet will work on any particular employer's page; or
- a board we support today will remain readable tomorrow — employers and ATS vendors change their systems without telling us.
We are not responsible for employers, for anything they do or fail to do, for hiring decisions, or for how they treat the data you send them.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
16Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- No indirect damages. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunities, lost or missed job opportunities, offers or income, loss of goodwill, or loss of data, however caused and on any theory of liability, even if we have been advised of the possibility.
- Cap. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, and (b) Unresolved: REVIEW: floor amount — US$100 is the common figure; note that for a user on the Free plan (a) is zero, which is exactly why a floor is usually included.
These limits apply even if a limited remedy fails of its essential purpose. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including, in many places, liability for fraud, for fraudulent misrepresentation, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
17Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, loss, liability or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of:
- content you submit to an employer through or with the help of the Service, including any claim that it was inaccurate, misleading, or misrepresented your credentials;
- your breach of these Terms, in particular §6;
- your use of another person's personal data in the Service, including contacts and interviewers; and
- your violation of any law or of any employer's or third party's rights or terms.
We will notify you of any such claim and you may control its defence with counsel we reasonably approve; you may not settle it in a way that admits fault on our part or imposes any obligation on us without our consent.
18Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material we will give notice before it takes effect — by email to your account address, or in the app. Unresolved: REVIEW: choose the method and the notice period; 30 days is standard for a material change. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not, delete your account before then.
The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version. Unresolved: REVIEW: keep an archive of prior versions — it is cheap and it is the first thing anyone asks for in a dispute.
19Governing law and disputes
20General
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service, and replace any earlier understanding.
- Severability. If any provision is unenforceable, it is limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary and the rest stays in force.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a provision, that is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, on notice to you.
- No third-party beneficiaries. Nobody other than you and us has rights under these Terms. Employers named or listed in the Service are not parties to it.
- Force majeure. We are not liable for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including outages at the feeds, ATS boards and infrastructure providers the Service depends on.
- Notices. We will send notices to your account email address. Send legal notices to us at Unresolved: REVIEW: notice address.
- Export and sanctions. You may not use the Service in breach of applicable export-control or sanctions laws, or if you are located in an embargoed territory or on a restricted-party list.
- Contact. Unresolved: REVIEW: support address, and whether it differs from the legal notice address.
